The Roux Institute Techstars Accelerator has opened applications for early-stage companies that want to join its next cohort, scheduled to begin in September.
The accelerator is a collaboration between The Roux Institute at Northeastern University and Techstars, a Colorado-based company that operates a global network of startup accelerators.
It welcomed its first cohort of 10 startups last September. The founding teams spent 13 weeks in Portland building and scaling their companies, culminating in a Demo Day in early December that featured the 10 founders pitching their businesses to an audience that included investors, mentors, and the wider Portland startups community (here’s a recording).
The Roux Institute Techstars Accelerator welcomes applications from startups across industry verticals, but is especially interested in founding teams that are working on products at the intersection of humans and machines in areas that will revolutionize how we live and work, including artificial intelligence, life sciences and health, and data and analytics.
“I’m looking for great founders with passion and humility—as well as the ability to execute on great ideas,” said Lars Perkins, the accelerator’s managing director.
Startups that are accepted into the accelerator receive guidance and mentorship from seasoned startup founders, including Rich Miner, co-founder of Android, and Jennifer Monti, a cardiologist and startup founder who currently works in health tech at Meta. Accepted startups also receive a $20,000 equity investment from Techstars, with an option for an additional $100,000 convertible note.
